Media Studies
All 4 media studies need to be completed on the same page in your sketchbook.
- Use an extra-fine point Sharpie to create a 3-point value scale (1 inch x 3 inches) with stippling.
- Use a pencil to create a 3-point value scale (1 inch x 3 inches.)
- Use color pencil to create a 3 color gradient (1 inch x 3 inches) - G/Y-G/Y/Y-O/O/R-O/R
- Use the provided step-by-step guides located under resources to draw a maple leaf and an oak leaf in your sketchbook. This assignment will help you become familiar with the structure of these leaves.
Procedure
1.Using a pencil and a ruler, draw 6 shapes on your page. The shapes should be evenly spaced and placed in an interesting composition.
2. In each shape, use a pencil to draw a leaf.
3. In each shape, create a leaf that illustrates only one element of art. Form and Value may be illustrated in the same square.

- TEXTURE - Sharpie (stippling)
- FORM & VALUE - Pencil
- SHAPE - Sharpie
- SPACE - Ebony Pencil

Grading Criteria
Criteria 1 – Follow instructions and include each component.
Criteria 2 – Is each element of design clearly illustrated in the leave it represents?
Criteria 3 – Skill in rendering images
Criteria 4 – Effort: Took time to develop idea & complete project? (Didn’t rush.) Good use of class time?
Criteria 5 – Craftsmanship: Neat, clean & complete? Skillful use of the art tools & media?
Criteria 2 – Is each element of design clearly illustrated in the leave it represents?
Criteria 3 – Skill in rendering images
Criteria 4 – Effort: Took time to develop idea & complete project? (Didn’t rush.) Good use of class time?
